2023 - 09 - 04 /// Places of Screamo

September 04, 2023 by David Norman

With US Dave being on tour with Crowning last/this week it’ll be a bit slow until September 13th when three things happen in the span of three days. In the meantime please check out our stores, bandcamp, youtube videos, etc. and also check out some more places for screamo…especially if you are in a band! My boy Jesse Mowery and I will be on it covering Union Of Uranus! The following message is from Edie of Middle Man Records / Coma Regalia:

Hey! If you have ever wanted to be a part of one of the grave, neighbors Halloween cover compilations that I do, this may be your last chance. To be honest each year it’s getting more and more difficult to get people to submit. Last year, some friends came through at the last minute and help me wrangle up some more songs, but this year it’s starting to look like i’ll have to do a bunch myself if I want to make a decent size compilation out of it. Anyway, if you have an unreleased recording of a cover song or would like to do one and can submit it by October 1, Let me know. I would love to continue doing this but if there’s no interest maybe I should just let it go.

Hit them up here: middlemanrecords@gmail.com

Speaking of screamo hubs, CanaDave recently did a podcast with Sascha of Twin Cities Screamo aka the best place to find screamo on the internet. It’s a facebook group and I’ve linked it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/314579255748542

Click for the full post!

As stated US Dave is kicking ass around the East of US for the next two nights. If you are within a few hours drive of those cities, have transportation, and don’t work/go to school, I like…recommend those shows. A lot. Like…don’t, y’know, miss out on something you may never ever get witness again.

Social Caterpillar begins their cycle into the new 12”LP ‘Alphabet Crown’ with the release of the first single Smells Like Middle-Aged Apathy. Jam that sucker below and check back on Friday over at Idiot.com for the music video premiere!!! Oh Softseed Music still have tapes of their previous endeavor to purchase so click here to listen/buy.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: GUILT = This new band’s demo is sick and you can bet there’ll be some people counting down the days until their next proper release.

2023 - 09 - 01 /// Weekend Updates

September 01, 2023 by David Norman

Crowning ‘Survival Sickness + Friends’ 12” sold out in like 30 minutes! Fret not, for we only had 35% of the pressing! That means there are 65 copies (minus whatever sold in Cleveland last night) pingin’ around the Eastern U.S.A.. If you are a few hours out and have a means of transportation then snagging one is very much in your grasp. Catch the homies/the bafoons on tour with Niboowin now!

Speaking of tours, Hexis is coming to North America again and dropping by Victoria for their 2nd show of the tour and CanaDave is putting it on! Not only that, but we were able to secure Jisei to open the early/fast night! Music starts at 7pm sharp on September 23rd at Victoria Events Centre. Click on the picture above for tickets or this text for the facebook event page. Poster by Alexis <3

Mexico’s Satón and their fiery new full length ‘a la espera del momento’ releases on October 6th, 2023 and here’s a reveal of the freakin’ most excellent cover. Jam the music videos below and be on the lookout for another new jam next Friday!

Social Caterpillar’s first official single from ‘Alphabet Crown’ is premiering over at (((((OPENmind/SATURATEDbrain))))). If you missed their last record, you are missing out. Beautifully orchestrated folksy indie rock from members of Scowler, Alta, and The Great Redneck Hope. A music video for this song will be released next week via Idioteq.com and the full album comes out October 7th, 2023 on Softseed Music via tapes and 12”s. Click on the picture above or this text to go to the full premiere with lots of additional text from the band.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: No band today, just the entire battle set including encore from ZBR Fest 2023 between Crowning and Eyelet on May 5th at Empty Bliss. Hot. Loud. Amazing.

2023 - 08 - 30 /// Crowning 'Survival Sickness + Friends'

August 30, 2023 by David Norman

Crowning ‘Survival Sickness + Friends’ 12” releases tomorrow!!! These are but a small pressing of 100, and ZBR only has 35 of them (the band will have the rest on their tour that starts tomorrow in Cleveland!) so they won’t last long. Side A is their full length LP with the B-side housing all of the cassette tracks (aka Maree Noire split + ‘Funeral Designs’ EP) completely remixed and remastered! They sound fucking huge. 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST on Thursday August 31st. Tour poster below!

Massa Nera’s newest 12”LP ‘Derramar | Querer | Borrar’ is officially dwindling and our numbers (as well as the band’s) are getting low enough for most variants to warrant this post. Congratulations my friends!

2023 - 08 - 28 /// September Upcomingness

August 28, 2023 by David Norman

So what’s going on? Lots of shit. Good shit. Momentous shit. Fecal God? Sure, why not.

Okay so August 31st we’ve got a little surprise Crowning 12” for you. No new material but remixed/remastered + out of print stuff. It’s gonna be sick. Full details tomorrow! Pics on Wednesday! Then the Crowning/Niboowin tour begins after the 12” is released! Oh happy day.

We’ve got a two-song lathe from a ZBR band that rocked us at the 2022 fest. I can’t seem to recall their name. Very weird. I am prone to forget. I do remember it comes out September 14th though!

After that is the September 25th release of Riversleem’s new 7”EP ‘A Second Release by Riversleem’ that will see a song premiere on September 13th via Borderline Fuckup. You can jam “Hammer” from the 21st Zampler which is also on the EP.

Later that same week we’ll be dropping the incredible Vibora 12”LP ‘Zaldi Beltza’ on Friday September 29th. This will be a co-release with Through Love Records in Europe. Jam a song from the 21st Zampler below!

Joliette’s ‘Luz de Bengala’ came out last Friday and is kicking serious ass, as is the band on their European tour! The Porcelain are all gone but we have some Sea Glass available as well as the gorgeous Sink Rose swirl color-in-color variant.

Also check out Borderline Fuckup’s excellent article about the new EP by clicking on the text or the picture above.

This Noise Is Ours gave some props to Course and their lone ZBR 7”EP (that we still have in stock). This thing was massively overlooked and I’m still bummed more people didn’t hear this phenomenal Botch/Chariot hybrid with two vocalists. I think we still have them on sale for less than cost. Click on the text or pic above for the review or jam that short/powerful thing below!

Operation X-Ray gave us a nice shout-out in their Friday edition, playing music from Joliette, New Forms, and Orbit Cinta Benjamin, but honestly you should just jam the entire episode cuz Andre knows his shit.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: THE ARMED = There’s a new The Armed album so naturally we must investigate.

2023 - 08 - 24 /// Joliette tomorrow

August 24, 2023 by David Norman

Joliette’s brand new and most excellent EP ‘Luz de Bengala’ releases in full tomorrow! My god we are stoked!!! So the variant breakdown is 300 ‘Sink Rose’ swirl, 100 ‘Sea Glass’ (ZBR exclusive variant) and 100 ‘Porcelain’ (Joliette exclusive variant), but we’ll have all 3 variants up (although only about 5 of the transparent/100) on Friday at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST!!! Jam that new music video for “Charlotte” below!

Satón unleashed another killer music video following their amazing New Friends Fest 2023 performance. I think it’s important to note that their drummer Gabo drummed for Joliette for nearly a decade!!! Jam it below

No Clean Singing also wrote an article on the previous music video as well, be sure to check it out! Click on this text to go to the review and video.

Eyelet’s ‘The Howling in the Hall’ is both exceptional and riddled with sadness. Find out why in the 166th episode of Out Past the Rings. Listen to it here.

Clix for Tix!!!

Hexis and Trauma Model’s show in Victoria is just under a month away! September 23rd at the Victoria Events Centre in…you guessed it, Victoria. Click on the pic above for tickets or click on this text for the Facebook event page.

Let’s return to Hiding in the Outpost, shall we? These are products that we are down to the last copies of. Today’s installment for the Widowdusk + Ihuntmonsters split on shows that I have two freaking test dips still in stock! Those usually sell first but I had them set aside in case of any issues. Grab now or forever hold your peace.

WIDOWDUSK + IHUNTMONSTERS - Split (cassette)

WIDOWDUSK + IHUNTMONSTERS ‘Split’ cassette EP (TT100)

For fans of: Funeral Diner, Montcalm, 2 O’Clock Girlfriend, and The Great Redneck Hope.

Our 100th release is a celebration of this window into the future of screamo. Not even 19 years old, WIDOWDUSK hail from California and have been gathering a bunch of hype along the way. This the band’s pre-LP material and marks a shift into darker/screamier territory. IHUNTMONSTERS is a solo project from In Case Of Capture. This collection of songs are ridiculously heavy and concise, bringing to mind false grind meets emo-violence and panic chords. So fucking good. And the tapes? Perhaps the most beautiful we’ve ever done. On two variants, Tomb/Tree. Alternate art (the blue-ish one) by Kyle Calvert Design.

Tapes /102, 70 on Tomb swirl, 25 on Tree swirl and 7 test dips, all w/double-sided jcard. 5 songs.

Listen here:

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: SUAIRE = This is a sick Italian band from a decade ago, just heard a few days back. Very sick!
