2023 - 08 - 30 /// Crowning 'Survival Sickness + Friends'

August 30, 2023 by David Norman

Crowning ‘Survival Sickness + Friends’ 12” releases tomorrow!!! These are but a small pressing of 100, and ZBR only has 35 of them (the band will have the rest on their tour that starts tomorrow in Cleveland!) so they won’t last long. Side A is their full length LP with the B-side housing all of the cassette tracks (aka Maree Noire split + ‘Funeral Designs’ EP) completely remixed and remastered! They sound fucking huge. 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST on Thursday August 31st. Tour poster below!

Massa Nera’s newest 12”LP ‘Derramar | Querer | Borrar’ is officially dwindling and our numbers (as well as the band’s) are getting low enough for most variants to warrant this post. Congratulations my friends!

ZBR Canada/Bandcamp final count:
4 splatter 12”
4 green 12”
2 white 12”
7 frosty/grey tapes
2 test dip tapes
SOLD OUT swirl tapes

ZBR U.S.A. final count:
18 splatter 12”

The California five-piece known as Widowdusk went on CanaDave’s (((((OPENmind/SATURATEDbrain))))) podcast. Good times were had. Definitely 1) Check them out. 2) Check out the podcast. 3) Jam their split with Ihuntmonsters. 4) Buy their upcoming EP on Larry Records. 5) Buy their upcoming 12”LP on Zegema Beach Records. Cllick on this text or the picture above to go the full podcast post w/links.

2023 - 08 - 28 /// September Upcomingness

August 28, 2023 by David Norman

So what’s going on? Lots of shit. Good shit. Momentous shit. Fecal God? Sure, why not.

Okay so August 31st we’ve got a little surprise Crowning 12” for you. No new material but remixed/remastered + out of print stuff. It’s gonna be sick. Full details tomorrow! Pics on Wednesday! Then the Crowning/Niboowin tour begins after the 12” is released! Oh happy day.

We’ve got a two-song lathe from a ZBR band that rocked us at the 2022 fest. I can’t seem to recall their name. Very weird. I am prone to forget. I do remember it comes out September 14th though!

After that is the September 25th release of Riversleem’s new 7”EP ‘A Second Release by Riversleem’ that will see a song premiere on September 13th via Borderline Fuckup. You can jam “Hammer” from the 21st Zampler which is also on the EP.

Later that same week we’ll be dropping the incredible Vibora 12”LP ‘Zaldi Beltza’ on Friday September 29th. This will be a co-release with Through Love Records in Europe. Jam a song from the 21st Zampler below!

Joliette’s ‘Luz de Bengala’ came out last Friday and is kicking serious ass, as is the band on their European tour! The Porcelain are all gone but we have some Sea Glass available as well as the gorgeous Sink Rose swirl color-in-color variant.

Also check out Borderline Fuckup’s excellent article about the new EP by clicking on the text or the picture above.

This Noise Is Ours gave some props to Course and their lone ZBR 7”EP (that we still have in stock). This thing was massively overlooked and I’m still bummed more people didn’t hear this phenomenal Botch/Chariot hybrid with two vocalists. I think we still have them on sale for less than cost. Click on the text or pic above for the review or jam that short/powerful thing below!

Operation X-Ray gave us a nice shout-out in their Friday edition, playing music from Joliette, New Forms, and Orbit Cinta Benjamin, but honestly you should just jam the entire episode cuz Andre knows his shit.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: THE ARMED = There’s a new The Armed album so naturally we must investigate.

2023 - 08 - 24 /// Joliette tomorrow

August 24, 2023 by David Norman

Joliette’s brand new and most excellent EP ‘Luz de Bengala’ releases in full tomorrow! My god we are stoked!!! So the variant breakdown is 300 ‘Sink Rose’ swirl, 100 ‘Sea Glass’ (ZBR exclusive variant) and 100 ‘Porcelain’ (Joliette exclusive variant), but we’ll have all 3 variants up (although only about 5 of the transparent/100) on Friday at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST!!! Jam that new music video for “Charlotte” below!

Satón unleashed another killer music video following their amazing New Friends Fest 2023 performance. I think it’s important to note that their drummer Gabo drummed for Joliette for nearly a decade!!! Jam it below

No Clean Singing also wrote an article on the previous music video as well, be sure to check it out! Click on this text to go to the review and video.

Eyelet’s ‘The Howling in the Hall’ is both exceptional and riddled with sadness. Find out why in the 166th episode of Out Past the Rings. Listen to it here.

Clix for Tix!!!

Hexis and Trauma Model’s show in Victoria is just under a month away! September 23rd at the Victoria Events Centre in…you guessed it, Victoria. Click on the pic above for tickets or click on this text for the Facebook event page.

Let’s return to Hiding in the Outpost, shall we? These are products that we are down to the last copies of. Today’s installment for the Widowdusk + Ihuntmonsters split on shows that I have two freaking test dips still in stock! Those usually sell first but I had them set aside in case of any issues. Grab now or forever hold your peace.

WIDOWDUSK + IHUNTMONSTERS ‘Split’ cassette EP (TT100)

For fans of: Funeral Diner, Montcalm, 2 O’Clock Girlfriend, and The Great Redneck Hope.

Our 100th release is a celebration of this window into the future of screamo. Not even 19 years old, WIDOWDUSK hail from California and have been gathering a bunch of hype along the way. This the band’s pre-LP material and marks a shift into darker/screamier territory. IHUNTMONSTERS is a solo project from In Case Of Capture. This collection of songs are ridiculously heavy and concise, bringing to mind false grind meets emo-violence and panic chords. So fucking good. And the tapes? Perhaps the most beautiful we’ve ever done. On two variants, Tomb/Tree. Alternate art (the blue-ish one) by Kyle Calvert Design.

Tapes /102, 70 on Tomb swirl, 25 on Tree swirl and 7 test dips, all w/double-sided jcard. 5 songs.

2023 - 08 - 22 /// Joliette music video #2

August 22, 2023 by David Norman

Joliette is still kicking ass around Europe, and just days before we drop their new 12” we’ve got a brand spankin’ new music video for “Charlotte”, the fourth track off of the release. ‘Luz de Bengala’ 12”EPs release in full on Friday at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST over three variants!!! Click on the picture above or this text to go there!

Five years in the making, the Orbit Cinta Benjamin and Flirt split is now available! Our little offshoot Tomb Tree made the swirl tapes for this release and we only made 50! Copies still available in both stores but the rarer variants are almost gone!

CanaDave finally got back in the saddle and pumped out one of the most important Out Past the Rings, that for Senza’s 2019 masterpiece ‘Even a Worm Will Turn’. We are out of 12”s! Only tapes remain. Unless you see them live then you better believe you’ll be snagging that 12”. Listen to it here.

CanaDave and Egin go way back, so it was a little upsetting that they hadn’t done a podcast together. Rectified. Egin Kongoli plays guitar/vox for Respire and is one of three founding New Friends DIY members. Bands played in this podcast: Excrucis, Low, The Pine, Slow Pulp, Social Caterpillar (exclusive song premiere!!!), and Xiu Xiu. Check the full post by clicking on the text or picture above.

When the The Sawtooth Grin confirmed to play our fest we pretty much lost our brains. Then we saw the band warmup and members from other bands stood around with jaws agape. Then we saw them tear the place apart to close out ZBR Fest 2023. And that’s it. We’re done here. But fret not, CanaDave has an entire post with new videos from every band that will be posted on his blog (((((OPENmind/SATURATEDbrain))))) at the beginning of September! See ya’ll next year!!!

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: AMERICANBUSINESSMAN = Amazing new EP from Colorado, very intense!

This Noise Is Ours also did a review for Blue Youth’s phenomenal ‘Dead Forever’ 12”LP, we’re dwindling now (the Canada store is down to 3 copies, for example) so be sure to pick up a copy of one of the best noise rock records of the last decade, easy-fuck-peasy. Click on the picture above or this text to go the review. Click below to buy!

For fans of: Life In Vacuum, The Holy Shroud and METZ.

I don't even know what to say. I love this record so goddamned much it's stupid. 8 songs of sassy, jarring, melodic and screamy rock music that'll have fans of METZ and Life In Vacuum sweating. Probably my top pick for best album of 2018. No, I’m not shitting you.

12" black vinyl with insert /300.

Operation X-Ray gave ZBR a sexy nod this past episode with three of our releases making the final cut, including Hetta, Scenario, and Congratulations.

We are very picky about bands playing two years in a row, but with Gillian Carter it’s a no-brainer. We will continue posting the single videos for each band that played the last day of ZBR Fest 2023 in the order that they played, so there’s more coming! And next one is the last one!!!

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: COPSE = Atmospheric black metal OR blackened screamo. Take your pick. It’s awesome, so is the previous EP.
