2022 - 10 - 07 /// Tomb Tree trips out

October 07, 2022 by David Norman

Tomb Tree is going off the rails today. Is it because of Bandcamp Friday? No actually, CanaDave didn’t even realize that was the case until 2 hours before it began. Nonetheless, here’s the breakdown for today’s releases as well as an official/final Of Death reminder for the impending release this Monday October 10th @9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST via Zegema Beach Records and Cliff Parade Records with additional help from Law Of Cycles.

First up? Georgia’s Colacon. They’ve already released two ear-ravaging music videos so without further ado, ‘The Pestilent Sickness’!!!

bandcamp.jpg 1 spider swirl.jpg 2 flowers and flowers and flowers swirl.jpg 3 two loves swirl.jpg

Next up is the ridiculously prolific To Be Gentle from Portland, Oregon as they’re pulling double-duty today! They released the digital full length ‘Unbroken’ back in August and now we’ve got our very sexy tapes ready to go! Digitals were also released on our Bandcamp today so feel free to jam/grab it today as it’s Bandcamp Friday and you’d be funding more Zegema Beach and Tomb Tree releases! These tapes are shipping now and look awesome!!!

The new album ‘it always hurts and one day it will win‘ released today and we’ve got cassette pre-orders. We’ll hold off on our Bandcamp release until we’ve got the physical tapes in (should be late October, shipping early November). This album is absolutely sensational and our vote for their best work thus far.

TO BE GENTLE - it always hurts and one day it will win (cassette)
from CA$10.00

TO BE GENTLE ‘it always hurts and one day it will win’ cassette LP (TT083)

For fans of: Envy, Daitro, and Gillian Carter.

Arguably the strongest TO BE GENTLE release to date, ‘it always hurts and one day it will win‘ is a truly special collection of 10 songs that deal with honesty, accountability, beauty, loss, and acceptance through the medium of post-hardcore, screamo, post-rock, grind, and metal. The level of emotion, catharsis, and songwriting here is enveloping and caressing, despite being rooted in aggressive music. The gorgeous/epic “greenhug”, the mathy/chuggy “i worship what will kill me”, and the fuzzed-out grunge of “we are all connected and we all love you“ are prime examples of the mastery shown here, but every track provides its own insular and warming experience.

Tapes /66, 34 on primary swirl, 15 on secondary swirl (5 of these are available as a set w/Unbroken), 10 rare swirl, “outta 2” swirl, and 5 test dips, all w/jcard and download code. 10 songs.

Virgin Mother released physically yesterday and we’ll have it on sale for a few bucks off until the official digital release on October 14th, 2022. We did 113 12”LPs and with the band taking some we’re already half depleted! Features Seb of Meth., Cadence Fox, and a million other things.

VIRGIN MOTHER ‘Mourning Ritual’ 12”LP (TT078)

For fans of: An Autumn For Crippled Children, New Order, and Meth.

Over two years ago we released a short run of demo tapes titled ‘It Is’, and after much more writing, polishing, and expanding of the VIRGIN MOTHER sound, we are set to drop the brand new debut 12”LP ‘Mourning Ritual’ on Friday October 17th. Drawing cues from industrial, new wave, black metal, noise, screamo, punk, post-punk, and more, this deep, dark look into Seb’s subconscious and it’s subsequent artistic representation is truly a work of art. From the hellish, eerie, almost gothic-sounding intro of “[promised end]“ it becomes obvious that this album is meant to be consumed in full, with spiking adrenaline surges (see “I’d Never Feel Like Anything” and “Fault”), soothing/groovy vibes (“Traffic Stop” and “Black Light On 16th Street“), uncomfortable noise (“Vanity’s Sake“ and “Parasite“) and the epic genre-mashes (“Blossoming Winter” and “Field of Warmth“). Released on Tomb Tree. Ships mid-October.

Vinyl /113 on 180gram Eco-Grime. Includes sticker. 11 songs.

Softseed Music just released the new Venus Twins album ‘RAXIS’. You might remember their release on Tomb Tree a few years back, incredible bass and drums duo doing a garage/noise rock/sass-punk thing that fans of Death From Above 1979, Big Dick, and Raw Grip will fucking love. I sure do!

A final reminder for those in PERU that today is the last chance to pre-order a copy before shipping goes back up. Wait…what’s this? Well Fiesta Bizarra has a new EP releasing on October 31st via Softseed Music but you can nab a tape now that will ship immediately!

SNAG / SWALLOWS NEST - Split cassetteEP + poster (ZBR125)

for fans of: People's Temple Project, Robots Don't Cry, Dangers! and Welcome The Plague Year.

This U.S./New Zealand split came about as the two bands are adamant in their stand with the environment, thus gravitating toward one another from across the globe. SNAG offers up an epic and astounding six-minute masterpiece of late 90/early 2000s driven screamo while SWALLOWS NEST drop two tracks with layered male/female screaming atop dark, screamy post-hardcore. Tapes come in an 11x17 two-sided poster with lyrics and band statements.

200 copies on white tapes with two-sided poster/lyric sheet and download code.

2022 - 10 - 06 /// Virgin Mother early release!

October 06, 2022 by David Norman

Virgin Mother is officially available to order through Zegema Beach Records! This is Tomb Tree’s first vinyl release and it’s /100 with the band taking 25. This means we’ve only got 75 copies and if the demo tapes are any indication this won’t stick around for long. Today No Echo premiered “Parasite” from the album, as this last single will linger for a week before the full release on Friday October 14th. Click this text or the picture above for the link/song and/or pick one up from the Canada/International store below.

Yo yo yo here’s the final Colacon in it’s green/purple glory! 30 of these exist in addition to the 10 red/yellow swirl, 6 test dips and 5 mystery swirls. These miniature bricks of dynamite are available purchase tomorrow Friday 7th @9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST.

A friendly reminder (especially for those from PERU!!!!!!!!!!) that Fiesta Bizarra has a new EP releasing on October 31st via Softseed Music but you can nab a tape now that will ship immediately! As of this Saturday if you’d like one and are in Peru you’ll have to pay single shipping instead of me sending a bulk order over. As of now there are zero Peru orders. Very sad. Peruvian pre-orders are open until Friday October 7th at 11:59pm but are available to the public now also who seem to be gobbling up all the rare variants.

This Noise Is Ours did another ZBR Roster review, this time for We Watch Clouds who just happen to have a new album coming out next week! We aren’t involved but that won’t stop me from jumping all over that shit. Click on this text for the review and jam the record below <3

2022 - 10 - 04 /// A look into the future...Of Death

October 04, 2022 by David Norman

It’s almost time for the 2x12” ‘…discography’ by ….Of Death with D-side etching. It’s /300 copies and 150 of them are yellow/red merge disc 1 and ghostly red w/etching for disc 2, with this second variant having the same disc 1, but a black blob on red as disc 2. We’ll have a full digital release complete with 2x12” orders opening at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST. This is a co-release with Cliff Parade and Law Of Cycles, with each label taking 100 copies. Levi of Cliff Parade Records had this to say about it:

“ I found …Of Death on a Alone Records sampler in 2003. Immediately I was struck by the “girl scout being murdered” screams similar to the bird like scream of early Jeromes Dream. These vocals accompany the blasts and riffs that make this Texas band one of the screamo goats. The idea that all of their work is now on two sexy vinyl makes my screamo heart so warm. “

To Be Gentle recently released ‘Unbroken’ and is gearing up to release ‘it always hurts and one day it will win‘ this Friday October 7th. Tomb Tree is taking care of tapes for both releases, with the former already being complete and the latter still at the plant. You can click on this text to hear a new jam from the upcoming album as well as peruse the variant options for ‘Unbroken’. Both physical copies release October 7th at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST along with a bunch of other Tomb Tree stuff. What stuff? Let’s take a looksie!

Colacon also releases via Tomb Tree and also releases this Friday! 11 tracks of face-melting metallic hardcore/mathcore/metal from two rad dudes in Georgia. Check out that new music video below! We’ll release the final variant pic tomorrow!

Virgin Mother’s debut 12”LP goes up for pre-order this Friday! The vinyl is /100 and will shipped before the release date of October 14th! There’s a pretty high probability that between us and the band touring a few days after the release that we’ll sell out so don’t sleep on this incredible vision manifested as a full length.

That’s a lot of Tomb Tree stuff. What’s 2022 looking like for ZBR? Before the year is out we’ll have Thank You Driver releasing on cassette in early November, the new Lower Automation 12”LP on November 22nd, and the Massa Nera cd/tape/12”LP on December 2nd. Those three releases cover a ton of genres and all absolutely slay. There is but one song out for all three releases combined, so check out Lower Automation’s “The 99” from the most recent Zampler.

Fiesta Bizarra has a new EP releasing on October 31st via Softseed Music but you can nab a tape now that will ship immediately! Yes, exactly one-second after ordering. Seems possible. Anyhoos, this 4-track romp through mathy, poppy, multi-vocal emo/rock from Peru kicks major ass and even has some hints of the six-piece’s screamo roots! Peruvian pre-orders are open until Friday October 7th at 11:59pm but are available to the public now also.

Out Past the Rings #124 is COARSE history for Botch-lovers. 7”s for ‘I’ now on sale for much less than cost! Please check that sick EP out!!!

Operation X-Ray premiered recently despite our main man Andre being without power or water for a full week. A beautiful, wonderful, positive, stinky boy he truly is <3 Bands played on this podcast: Works, Venus Twins, Colacon, and …Of Death.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: +CAREGIVER+ = This new release is very cool and worth checking out. 5 tracks of mesmerizing metal/hardcore in nearly 20 minutes. Excellent EP!

2022 - 09 - 29 /// ...OF DEATH...discography 2x12"!!!

September 29, 2022 by David Norman

Monday October 10th will see the release of the 2x12” ‘…discography’ by ….Of Death with D-side etching. It’s /300 copies and 150 of them are this - yellow/red merge disc 1 and ghostly red w/etching for disc 2. We’ll reveal the other variant next week. This is a co-release with Cliff Parade and Law Of Cycles, with each label taking 100 copies. Rosa of Law Of Cycles had this to say about the release:

What is there to say about ...Of Death? The band pulled my heart into a new world entirely at a time when I relied on nu-metal for catharsis. On "Generation of Vipers" the band draws from a similar well of influence frequented by Jeromes Dream, Tristan Tzara, and In Loving Memory. The songs prioritize the obnoxious attitude of punk while highlighting the urgency of grindcore, & work to convey the glory of triumphant rage. Well, more than they care to succumb to sadness & stillness, anyway. The Doomsday clock is ticking...

Check out one of the remastered songs (by Will Killingsworth) on the most recent Zampler 19, embedded below.

Hiding In The Outpost numba three is for Euth, as the Canada/International store (aka this one) only has one copy left! Bandcamp page with order link is embedded below!

CanaDave did an interview for this lengthy screamo piece on Stereogum. It’s an article about screamo band reformations as of late, and brings up some great points and is an interesting read. It should be noted that there are quite a few individuals who have been playing screamo these past 20+ years but we understand that there’s only so much time for research and only so much space in an article. Click on this text for the article. <3 <3 <3

Blue Youth 12”s are on sale! Why? Because they are amazing! And you’ve likely never heard it. Please change that. For CanaDave’s sake, please at least give it a listen. It’s one of our best releases, hands down.

Sarin’s ‘Darker Lakes’ was the subject of the most recent This Noise Is Ours ZBR roster dive. To clarify, the 12” does not have the three ambient interludes because they wouldn’t fit on the 12”. We are sold out of this beauty, but do have 12”s and tapes of their follow-up release ‘You Can’t Go Back’. Click on this text to go to the review. Thanks as always James <3

2022 - 09 - 27 /// 2x12" Announcement on Thursday

September 27, 2022 by David Norman

October will see the release of a 2x12” discography with D-side etching. What is it? Not sayin’ yet. It’s /300 copies across two variants and I’ll give you a hint, they’re on this zampler :)

Colacon is gearing up to release their new album ‘The Pestilent Sickness’ on Tomb Tree via 50-something swirl tapes. Awesome grindy, mathy, metallic, myspace-core. Besides the video below, they also have a new song/video releasing this Friday on This Noise Is Ours!

My Hair Is A Rat’s Nest continues to own the top 5 screamo charts on bandcamp. Here’s a new/awesome review from the Revisionist Western Blog, which is a good time to remind you that the tapes are almost gone. Click on this link for the review!

Out Past the Rings for the amazing Euth 12”! We’re down to our last copy!!!

Operation X-Ray’s most recent episode dropped some Colacon, Reverie, and Qatsi. This Friday should see an unreleased jam from Tomb Tree and more ZBR music! There might even be some Softseed Music played! Oh happy day.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: EASY BLAME = New band from a member of Ed Gein! Screamo! Yeeeeeeeeah!!!
