Coup arrival, Taking Tiger Mountain premiere, surprise on Monday!

October 09, 2026 by David Norman

Coup D’etat has arrived!!! Holy fucking shit. After taking a little longer to press than expected, the 7” lathes were shipped, sat in limbo for over 6 weeks, and were then returned to the plant. They just arrived on Wednesday evening and now all the orders have gone out! Happy days. They are playing the upcoming Taking Tiger Mountain show in Victoria, and speaking of TTM, (((((OPENmind/SATURATEDbrain))))) premiered their first single off their upcoming cassette/cd EP releasing October 23rd, 2026 but they’ll likely have copies in hand at the show! Click on this text for the full premiere.

A quick little reminder that I’ll see ya Monday for the Surprise surprise. Yay!!! 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST. I recommend NOT being late.

Jisei announced their release show for ‘Gets Worse’ which I’ll be at cuz I playin Cadere. We should have the 12”s in hand for the release. I am so fucking stoked for this one! Check out the new song/music video below.

This Noise Is Ours reviewed the Rainmaking/Senza split (which I call the Rainza split 12”). These have moved well and are definitely well past half sold out. Snag a copy and while you’re at it pick up Senza’s ‘Celestial Body’ before everything released by Senza and Rainmaking totally sells out. Click on the pic above or this text for the review. Jam/buy below!

Avery Friedman has a new song and music video for “You Move”. A friendly reminder that her debut 12”LP ‘New Thing’ is still available on two gorgeous variants! Video above, first LP below.

Operation X-Ray’s recent episode featured Monterey, Ghola, and Ambretta. The first two are already out, while the third will be coming out on cd later this year.

Click here to go to the A Mountain Far page!

I thought I’d push my good friend Em’s A Mountain Far record label. They used to do vocals for Foxmoulder (last 7” copy is here!) and after resurrecting the label recently I came across both of these releases which rock. That Body Nest demo…goddamn!!! Click on the pic above for the merch page, or go directly to the bandcamp page below.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: FLESH BORN = Oh my god new Flesh Born!!! Check out the new record above and scope their ZBR Fest appearance below.

2025 - 12 - 30 /// Final SkramzCave now + Zampler #26 tomorrow!

December 30, 2025 by David Norman

CanaDave’s SkramzCave is now open for 24 hours. There’s a rare vinyl/tape room here and another super sale room here. Tons of amazing stuff up there! The second this closes on December 31st at 9am PST the Zampler #26 will release with orders of $20+ getting a free Zampler cd!!! Happy end of 2025!

Softseed Music released the Magana double EP cassette for ‘Bad News’ and ‘Golden Tongue’ yesterday so if you like your music breathtakingly gorgeous and a bit quirky, this is for you. Only 26 copies were made with less than 20 going up for sale. For fans of Squirrel Flower, Avery Friedman, Cat Power, etc.

As stated above Zampler #26 comes out tomorrow the 31st at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST. I’m making cds again for this one because the art is just so fucking sick (made by Jackson Schott who did the Terry Green cover for ‘Provisional Living’) and is available to all who make an order between 9am PST on the 31st and 9am PST on January 1st. You’ll find 28 songs including six previously unreleased tracks from the likes of Concealer, Vibora, Gravess, Limbs, and more!

Sear’s music video for “Judy” (the opening track from ‘O Merciful’ which releases January 12th) was premiered on OMSB yesterday. It’s embedded below but if you click on the pic above or this text you’ll be linked to the full premiere post with additional info, links, and some words from the band.

Avery Friedman had a live set on WNYU that you should scope! 17 minutes worth of awesomeness and Softseed still has some lovely Stupid Fancy vinyl in stock!

I found out we have a single copy of ‘Heartfelt Entries’ by Concealer so that is today’s Last Fucking Copy. Their debut 12”LP is on the horizon and HOLY FUCK is it incredible. Spring 2026 suckas. Snag now or forever hold your peace.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: поступь = Wicked Russian emo-violence in the vein of Lucidity and Qatsi.

2025 - 12 - 11 /// Sans Visage is next!

December 09, 2025 by David Norman

Sans Visage tapes arrive tomorrow and will be ready for their December 15th release. ‘drowned/resistance’ houses five jams, many of which are re-recorded versions of earlier songs. I’ll have some pictures ready before they drop. This EP is sooooo good! Their previous LP is also insanely good, and I’ve got 3 copies left below/pictured above!

I decided to keep this open for another week, with it closing Friday at 11:59pm PST and then items I still don’t want I’ll put up in the stores but all sales prices will revert back to normal prices. So that affects a ton of the cds in there, so scope now if you want a deal. A few choice items embedded below!

CROWNING - Survival/Sickness (tape)

CA$20.00

CROWNING ‘Survival/Sickness‘ tape (ZB235)

For fans of: Carrion Spring, Furnace and Leveless

Boasting members of Itto, Frail Body, Ikaray and Pregnancy Pact, Chicago’s most hospitable local band is finally dropping an LP…or mini-LP…or whatever. Thing is, it’s fucking incredible. Started in 2018, the songs are devoid of filler and instead refined and cut to a staggering degree of potency, with no better place to start than the crushing opener “Caldera”. Falling somewhere between riffy hardcore and screamo/metalcore, my good friends have crafted a truly brilliant piece of art. Speaking of, art by Vanessa Valadez and layout by Dave Cullen. Noise samples by Justin. Mustache by Lowell. Vocal warm-up rehearsal is all James. The 12”s come on assorted color vinyl, some with swirls, and the very coveted 25 wax mages, all with an insert and sticker. Cassettes have two runs, including swirled, opaque and halfsies. Oh look, we made cds.

12” vinyl /225, 200 on random color and 25 wax mage.
1st run of Cassettes /75, 45 dead gull swirl, 25 bone and 5 test dips.
2nd run of Cassettes /57, 25 Miami Tiger swirl, 15 Ocean Trash swirl, 10 Ocean Tiger halfsies swirl, and 7 test dips (band/label only).
CDs /100 in 4-panel digi-pak.
Download code included. 8 songs.

Demersal has arrived in Canada! They’ll arrive in the US late December, so sorry about the delay but it was completely out of our hands.

Just a friendly reminder that Softseed Music is releasing the first Mercy Necromancy EP ‘Fallen’ on 12” with a special surprise. Mmmhmm. If you need a Dollanganger fix in-between albums, there is nothing better to ease the pain. In fact, it’s so good you’ll end up falling in love with this too.

Inosuke’s ‘Allomancer’ got a nice review from This Noise Is Ours that you should scope. Our 10”s for this are dwindling as we only got 25 of each variant. Click on the pic above or this text to go to the review, jam/buy below!

Twins, Sine Nomine, and Hetta were featured on this banger-busting episode of Operation X-Ray. Jam/buy Hetta below!

The Noise of November 2025 included Jota and Hetta! Thanks Everything Is Noise. Click on the pic above or this text to go there. Jam Hetta above and Jota below!

Dollie Rot was named artist of the month by The Eastern Echo! Congratulations, Queen. Snag a tape of her first two EPs below. I’m down to just one variant left. Click on the pic above or this text for the full article.

Avery Friedman got the (((((OPENmind/SATURATEDbrain))))) treatment. Read the review, jam the album, watch the live session videos, snag that 12” baby! Access the review by clicking on the pic above or this text.

Piri Reis gets our Last Fucking Copy today, as these tapes were made for New Friends Fest 2025 and the /100 is already pretty much donezo. The band sold out on tour and the 12”s have sold out of numerous pressings aka get this now! Snag now or forever hold your peace!

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: SMUSH = Oh my god there’s new Smush and it’s amazing. Is it a cover? You betcha, the new EP is all covers and I’ve heard it…so fucking good. I believe the entire thing comes out in January.

2025 - 11 - 12 /// Adobe Homes released!

November 11, 2025 by David Norman

Important updates here first, the Usurp Synapse box bound for Canada arrives on Friday so 100% of the those stragglers will be shipped off next week, missing our official deadline by like a week. Not too shabby, I must say.

Next, the US store sells A LOT of mystery items and we realized it was 100% out of stock…well, problem solved! Restocked and includes test presses!!! You can access that sucker by clicking on this text.

We did it! Adobe Homes is out! After a decade of silence the band returns with a new 12-track album that dips between dark interludes and noodley screamo. The packaging on this is amazing and you’ve got to hold one to really grasp how sick the screen-printed covers are.

Hetta’s new release and first full length ‘Acetate’ drops November 21st on Tomb Tree! The music video for their new “Plainclothes Man” is above, and somehow we have two copies left of their debut EP (which is incredible btw) embedded below on the bandcamp page. The new material is crazy wonky, bringing to mind The Locust, Usurp Synapse, and Missouri Executive Order 44.

Another music video, this is the last Twins single and music video for “Presence”. 12” LP full release on November 21st (records probably won’t be in hand yet) but we only got 30 copies for ZBR and we’ve moved more than 20 already! Buy links in the embedded bandcamp below.

Eklektik Rock reviewed the Lucidity x Our Future Is An Absolute Shadow split and gave it high praise. If you like your emo-violence unrelenting or beautiful, this split has you covered. Arguably the best split we’ll release in 2025. 7” copies /100 remain below. Go to the review by clicking on this text or the pic above.

A live studio video of Avery Friedman’s “Finger Painting” was released and you should def check it out. Easily one of my favourites from ‘New Thing’, this Brooklyn-based artist released her phenomenal debut earlier this year and Softseed is the only place to get those sweet, sweet, stupid fancies.

Today’s Last Fucking Copy goes to Lorne Malvo’s first self-titled EP. We actually sold out of these initially but I realized I kept one back in case of a shipping mishap, so this has been sitting around for a bit and we def aren’t making more. If you want it you can grab it from our Bandcamp page embedded below. Snag now or forever hold your peace!

Operation X-Ray’s 204th episode features the incredible Lucertulas as well as our very own Jota, Inosuke, and Hetta!

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: MIRA CORPORA = Yeah this slaps.

2025 - 08 - 26 /// Emma Goldman tapes + Usurp Synapse pre-order on Fri!

August 26, 2025 by David Norman

Emma Goldman tapes are live! After burning through our 200 vinyl copies of ‘all you are is we’ it was apparent that the demand remained, so to get something in time for the band’s most recent Eastern Canada tour we cooked up 100 of these babies, with 50 going to the band (and are probably gone/near gone) and the remaining 50 getting split up among the ZBR stores. Snag one now, you know they ain’t gonna last!

Avery Friedman’s ‘New Thing’ 12” vinyl arrived yesterday and holy sheeat do they look sick. There’s clear pavement blue /100 and stupid fancy /30. Gorgeous, dreamy, singer/songwriter indie rock from New York.

Running low? You betcha. There’s single digit copies left of the ZBR swirl and blue, test dips are gone, and there’s about 20 of the butterfly swirl and apricot left. Gonna make more? Nope, that’s not how this comp rolls. Once it’s gone it’s gone. If they sell out soon Rob from Not Just A Phase will down a spicy Paqui on camera. It’s a win/win, baby. This killer 24-track tape (one song is a cassette exclusive) is bursting with previously unreleased tracks from: Captain Jazz, Claire Voyancé, Coup D’état, Demersal, Drought, Gil Cerrone, Floating Woods, Garland Briggs, Geronimostilton, Heavens Blinding Hue, Hynoki, Lagrimas, Leda, Letterbombs, Módulo Lunar, Mourn Recif, myhateisabeautifulexistence, Of Death…, Our Future Is An Absolute Shadow, Retratros De Heroína, and Youth Novel.

Okay, we’re doing it. Friday August 29th at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST is the Usurp Synapse ‘Disinformation Fix’ pre-order. The 2x12” releases on 500 units of hand-poured colored vinyl with lazer-cut gatefold covers. Please remember these WILL NOT SHIP UNTIL NOVEMBER. That includes orders with additional items in the order, the entire order will be held until November. Just a heads up, the unreleased This Endless Breath CD songs will not appear on the release as it enabled us to keep it to two 12”s instead of three.

Individual band videos from ZBR Fest have started popping up, many of which have additional videos that weren’t included in the full fest documentary. For now here’s Black Nail and Poetry Of Torch, but you can access more via our Youtube channel.

The new Operation X-Ray snuck in Demersal and Geronimostilton jams from the recently released Not Just A Phase Vol.3. Check it out below!

Bok Suna’s ‘Carnate’ is in. Black copies obtained. Stupid Fancy arriving any day. Full release is Friday August 29th at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST. Jam the “honest person” single below. Watch the music video for “doghorn” above.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: MALEVICH = Our good friends in Georgia’s finest sludgy, blackened, noisy hardcore/screamo/metal band released their newest record recently, scope it!!!
