November 30, 2022 by David Norman

Yo. Friday. Fucking Friday. Friday is Massa Nera day. Tapes. CDs. 12”s. And don’t forget one of the best screamo releases of all-time. Disagree? Listen to it on Friday then tell me that. Here are some promo pics of the records. 250 splatter, 150 seafoam marble, and 100 white. 12”s come with a massive 32-page booklet that should arrive at our stores for a mid-December ship date.

Here is the Keratin spread for the Australian screamo band’s debut EP ‘Only Eye’ releasing December 5th on Tomb Tree. This is easily one of the best EPs of 2022 so fucking hold your horses already with those lists…jeesh.

November 29, 2022 by David Norman

New Day Rising is almost here! Pre-orders open December 9th and the full remastered digital release is December 23rd! This thing sounds absolutely massive. Co-released with Protagonist (U.S.) and Moment Of Collapse (Europe).

Massa Nera has a full album review by Distorted Sound, check it out here!

Massa Nera was also played on the CFRU radio station in Guelph…my old university! Holy shit! Here’s an mp3 link.

And CanaDave spoke with Rich from The Sawtooth Grin which is embedded below with a full post link with additional links here. Definitely one very specific/ZBR relevant bit of news in there, see if you can catch it.

Blind Girls’ first full length ‘Residue’ was the topic of the most recent Out Past the Rings. Two tapes remain and that’s it! A classic!

Works was again on the the CHRW CHIN music radio with the song “Action Vale”. 12”s from Tomb Tree still available! Features members of Girl Arm and can be accessed in full by clicking on this text.

The November 25th Operation X-Ray played Lower Automation, Massa Nera, and Keratin…and a ton of other good stuff!

2022 - 11 - 25 /// Keratin premiere

November 25, 2022 by David Norman

Keratin just premiered their final single from the forthcoming ‘Only Eye’ EP on Tomb Tree. 84 release into the wild on December 5th. Truly incredible screamo from Australia! Here’s a pic of one of the /20 with alternate black cover. Click on this text for the full premiere link.

I just received the Infall tapes yesterday after a lengthy delay at customs (they were due here a week ago) and once I swirl the b-sides of 5 of them these will be ready to go aka I’ll ship the US store it’s copies and all Canada/International sales on Monday.

Victor Shores is officially out, making it the predecessor to the above Keratin EP. This album is very different but equally amazing. Super catchy hard emo punk from this Minnesota three-piece. Truly infectious stuff that isn’t repetative or boring in the slightest, and those vocals are just awesome. Tapes ship early December.

Works was on the the CHRW CHIN music radio with the song “The Bend”. 12”s from Tomb Tree still available! Features members of Girl Arm and can be accessed in full by clicking on this text.

Lower Automation came out the other day and pretty much fried everyone’s brain. These twelve tracks have infinite repeat listens because literally so much is happening. Absolutely fantastic stuff and contender for best of 2022 for sure!

Speaking of Lower Automation’s ‘Strobe Light Shadow Play’, here’s a review from Distorted Sound Mag!

Thoughts Words Action did a nice piece on Massa Nera and their newest video for “Adrift”, and some words about the album. Click here for the full post!

Operation X-Ray played Eyelet, Piri Reis, Infall, and Holly Caught A Contact High on the most recent episode. A new episode airs this Friday November 25th!

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: UNDER THE PIER = This quartet recently came out with a killer The God Awful Truth split and it’s a righteous, violent, beast.

2022 - 11 - 21 /// Victor Shores today, Lower Automation tomorrow but also kinda today!

November 21, 2022 by David Norman

Written around half-of-a-decade ago and recorded three years ago, the brand new/debut full length from Minnesota’s Victor Shores is finally upon us! Tapes from Tomb Tree ship early December and 12”s from No Funeral ship 2023. Amazing, cathartic, uplifting emo punk from three very awesome individuals. For fans of: Tiny Moving Parts, You’ll Live, and Sincere Engineer.

CanaDave also did a podcast with Victor Shores (linked below) and in that podcast there was a brand new Keratin song premiered! Check it out for at least those two reasons, but there are tons more.

Lower Automation full release tomorrow, but Mathcore Index has an exclusive stream (with special links) as well as Metallerium who is ahead of the pack and already posted a full album review! Click here for the Metallerium post or click anywhere else here for the Mathcore Index premiere.

CanaDave witnessed the Thank You Driver show this past weekend and was lucky enough to have a camera ready for the band’s cover of “Moral Eclipse” by Cave In. I saw the band sell a hefty amount of their tapes, and we traded for some cds so expect a Thank You Driver discography cd set coming in early December.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: A MOURNING STAR = This band closed the night at the Thank You Driver release show and it was fucking awesome. Hard Poison The Well vibes minus the clean vocals.

2022 - 11 - 19 /// Lower Automation premiere + Thank You Driver show

November 19, 2022 by David Norman

CanaDave goes to like…2-3 shows a year so this is big for him. In BC tonight? Go see the Thank You Driver show and say hi to him. It’s technically the band’s release show and I’ll have some serious heat at the ZBR Distro table. Even linked via this text!

Lower Automation fired out their final premiere via Heavy Blog Is Heavy for “Genuflect“, another mind-bending jam to give further insight on the ridiculous 12”LP that releases next Tuesday. Click on this text for the premiere.

We didn’t sell out in 24 hours but Piri Reis’ ‘Ritma’ just sold about 75% of our stock in that time. No way these copies last into 2023.

There will be a podcast going up on Sunday for Victor Shores, just a day ahead of their new/debut full length album ‘Victor Shores’ releasing on tape via Tomb Tree and 12” from No Funeral. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for that. I’ll be posting it after I return from the Thank You Driver show maybe 2pm PST.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: ALGORILLATHYM = Very cool stuff shown to me by Dave of Victor Shores because he mixed it!
