Respire is a six-piece band from Toronto, Canada, who combine epic post-hardcore, screamo, and black metal into a very cohesive formula that drips of maturity and patience. Gravity and Grace is their debut LP - a sprawling memoir of genre-defying soundscapes, reverb-washed tremolo harmonies, cascading arpeggios, dreamlike textures and walls of distorted guitars roaring over frantic rhythms, punctuated by tormented vocals and a near-orchestral array of instruments and contributors. Themes of loss, addiction, heartbreak, and existential anguish paint a bleak picture, but somewhere over the horizon rests a glimmering sense of hope, resolve and forgiveness.

This is a co-release between Zegema Beach Records (Canada), Ozona Records (USA), Dingleberry Records (Germany) and Narshardaa Records (Germany).

2022 - 05 - 29 /// Crowning + Naedr aka 'Rayau' is tomorrow!

‘Rayau’, the Crowning + Naedr split 12” releases in full tomorrow Monday May 30th via Zegema Beach Records (North America/world) and Left Hand Label (Europe/world) at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST. They come on 200 mood-ring 12” vinyl and look awesome!

CanaDave’s offshoot Softseed Music just released Ramona Cordova’s ‘On Paper’ on cassette. This completes the two-album run from such a massively talented individual. They have more material out include the most recent ‘naïve‘ just last year, which I’ve linked at the bottom of this post.

France’s ANNA SAGE have released a few EPs in the past, the first in 2014 and previous in 2018, so naturally after four more years they have another release but hooooooly moly is it massive (and an LP instead of an EP). 11 absolutely devastating tracks of metallic hardcore/screamo in the vein of Converge and old WristMeetRazor. When we first heard this release we were floored, and not only helped with the 12” but also asked if we could head up the tapes, of which there are 50 and we have 40 of those (the other 10 are with the band). 12”s should arrive in April (along with the full digital release) but we already have the tapes and we’ll ship those out late March :)

12”LP /300 on black vinyl with gatefold jacket.
Cassette /55, 33 on red swirl, 10 on clear/gold swirl, 5 mystery swirls, 2 red/gold swirl, and 5 test dips w/matching swirl case.

Tomb Tree recently released that ridiculous 4-way split featuring new tracks by Vientre, Letterbombs, Piet Onthel, and Demersal which was picked up by Stereogum (click on this text for said review). Did I just say Demersal? Well shit, two of those fine folks are in Telos and that Danish band just released a new non-album track from their upcoming LP release. Tomb Tree again will be making swirl tapes for this release. Ever say “Demersal is just way too soft and emo"? Seems unlikely, but if you did Telos is like Demersal after a trip through the nine circles of hell. Jam it below.

2022 - 05 - 26 /// Pre-Show Big Stuff Thing

Pre-show reminder, this happening and it’s gonna be sick. This has limited capacity and is at Empty Bliss. We’ll also have a bunch of Big Stuff Things (aka rebalance) so you might want to make that extra effort to be one of the first 50.

As ZBR pulls out of our previous corelease engagements, expect way more consistency and everything being in-hand. We’ll start running on a two-week schedule after ZBR Fest with Tomb Tree releasing during the off weeks. It’s gonna be awesome. We’re hella stoked.

David Norman became utterly obsessed with the California five-piece. And guess what? It never stopped, subsided, slowed, or even flickered. To this day the obsession continues on 500 stunning 12” records by Zegema Beach Records which release on Friday May 13th, 2022. Myspace madness, metallic hardcore style for fans of panic chords, breakdowns, and unrelenting screams.
