2025 - 04 - 29 /// Emma Goldman out, now it's ZBR Fest time!

April 29, 2025 by David Norman

Emma Goldman’s ‘all you are is we’ is officially out and ready to make you revolt, dance, scream, and have your mind blown all in the same instant. Easily a contender for screamo album of the year in the year of our Skramz 2025. 12 tracks of self-described “gabber skramz”, and hot damn that genre mash holds up nicely. Get absolutely ruined below and pick up either a transparent yellow w/red blob (/150) or opaque red (/150) 12” vinyl.

This is the last post before we buckle down for ZBR Fest 2025, so no shipping orders, updates here/facebook/Bluesky. Check out Instagram to stay up to date and this news page will be updated after the fest is over and the Daves get some sleep. Check out 2022 and 2023 recap videos of every band below, and snag the last of our tickets above. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you live in Chicago…cuz you’ll never know when we won’t be doing them there anymore. Click on this text for tickets. Check out 2023’s fest above and 2022 below.

Not Just A Phase just premiered the final Social Caterpillar release via their split 12” with Waunband. It releases on Softseed Music on May 2nd but as CanaDave will be a little busy with the fest and not in Canada, he will have it up upon his return May 8th. Jam it now though by clicking on this text or the picture above. Check out their final full length below (which we still have 12” copies of).

Click here for all the links you need and the podcast!

CanaDave did a podcast with Dan of Satsuma (and Suck City…and The Reptilian…aaaaaaand Seventeen Again) which you should check out by clicking on this text or the pic above. We’ve got a total of 3 tapes left for ‘this is my outside voice’ in the stores linked below (where you can also jam it).

Click here for the full article!

No Depression gave the Avery Friedman album a lotta love so be sure to check that out and for science’s sake check out ‘New Thing’ if you haven’t already! Click on the pic above or this text for the review, jam/buy below.

Click here for the full review!

Sutras has so many reviews it’s ridiculous, but I totally understand why. Here’s a new one from Punk Rock Mag which you can access by clicking the pic above or this text. Jam/buy below.

Operation X-Ray played brand new jams from Emma Goldman and Nuvolascura among countless others.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: ORPHANED = New album coming soon plus we still have tapes of their previous EP (embedded below). Wicked atmospheric black metal with great lyrics.

December 18, 2024 by David Norman

Die Princess Die is releasing their discography via cassette on Zegema Beach Records in one week! Brand new art from Boris Hager! All 22 recorded tracks! CanaDave has been obsessed for literally two decades so this is a treat and then some. It’s like Slint meets Indian Summer meets chaos and it’s on a level all its own. Check out ‘Discography’ on Friday December 20th at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST on just 52 tapes!!!

ZBR Fest Wave #1 is coming next week so get those tissues ready for tears or…other liquids. Here are the yearly recaps from 2022-2024.

Edie and Chris hit some ZBR and Tomb Tree releases (Senza, Othiel/Palefade, Terry Green, Basque, and Burial Etiquette) on their end of the year podcast. Listen in full below, lotsa good/new/obscure shit in there!

This Noise Is Ours continued their Zegema Beach Roster Review series with Tröpical Ice Land’s ‘D’ album. And holy shit there’s a single copy left in the Bandcamp store!!! Buy that shit below or click on the this text for the review. Out Past the Rings for said album above.

2024 - 04 - 27 /// In Her Head 'Doves EP' + Usurp Synapse art

April 26, 2024 by David Norman

As mentioned last post, we got that sweet sweet…wait…we got that dark’n’dirty Usurp Synapse EP comin’. It’s called ‘Polite Grotesqueries - AssIIAss edition’ and it features seven new jams that the band recorded back in January of 2024. We’ll have a streaming premiere on May 2nd along with a single rare variant before doing the full release on May 3rd at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST and then if you make it to the ZBR Fest pre-show you can catch them play the entire thing live! And also buy more tapes, cuz this is a super limited run of 128 with alternate art that will not be made again.

Niboowin new album ‘Giving In’ releases May 9th on ZBR but we got those 12”s in already so the band will be slingin’ them at their shows as well as (obviously) at ZBR Fest (cuz they’re playing). Insanely long in the making, this was nearly a cursed record but we got that thing lifted cuz it would have been a travesty for these incredible songs to have not seen the light of day. Jam a strawberry below.

In Her Head’s new release ‘Doves EP’ just dropped on Tomb Tree. Three tracks of breakdown-heavy sassy metalcore in the vein of SeeYouSpaceCowboy and ‘Frailty of Words’-era Hopesfall. These tapes literally just came in so the cases aren’t finished yet but will be good to go by Monday. We’ll start shipping them sometime next week, only 29 copies in total: 20 swirled, 5 blue, and 4 test dips w/matching swirl case.

Speaking of Tomb Tree, they’ll have the Colacon pre-orders for the band’s debut 12” on Monday at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST!!! More info to come over the weekend.

2022’s ZBR Fest was a return to form as we moved that sucker outta Canada and into Chicago where US Dave resides. It kicked off in epic fashion and was the first of many to come in Illinois, as that is ZBR Fest’s true home. This first Chicago-based fest was called ZBR Fest Mid-West and you can check out all the links and videos on the OMSB post by clicking on this text. Full recap video below!

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: MY HANDS YR HEART = Unfortunately a band with almost the exact same name released a demo about a month ago, but fortunately this kicks ass. Yay two new sick bands!

2022 - 09 - 15 /// Stickers, patches, buttons, and Charger Port!

September 15, 2022 by David Norman

CanaDave recently came across an old box of stickers, patches, and buttons and then spent way too much organizing, taking pictures, and posting said things. Most of them are $1 and there are things from bands such (but not limited to): Ostraca, Tropical Eice Land, R. Josef, Hedge Fund Trader, gif from god, Lume, Pique, Dog Knights, Nulajednanulanula, Lessener, Millions Of Them, and tons more! There’s even a June Paik and Cassus tote bag in there!!! Go there by clicking on this pic or text.

Tomorrow sees the digital and physical release of the APOSTLES OF ERIS and ENNUI split 7” at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST. This is a co-release with Day Zero Collective with them having most of the copies!

CanaDave’s non-screamo label Softseed Music just released some very nice tapes for the mindboggling math-rock EP ‘don’t care - good music’. Three sick songs over three sick variants and there’s also an /1 (bandcamp only) although I did include the only public test dip copy in the Softseed Section of this website! Take a gander at the other variants above and jam it below.

Hope you liked the previous picture for of one of the My Hair Is A Rat’s Nest variants, so here’s another. There are 5 of these test dips in the first ever (?) swirl dipped cassette stain bag. EP releases on Monday!

Out Past the Rings #119 is for the utterly amazing KOMUSŌ self titled cassette EP 'Komusō'. Literally one of the best EPs we’ve ever released. A few copies remain! And they look awesome!

With all of the individual band videos from Zegema Beach Records Fest 2022, I figured I’d include the full recap video from our resident ZBR fella Dave Cullen.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: NIDARE = This German post-black metal band released a new single a few weeks back and I loved it so much I bought 5 copies for the ZBR distro. I expect we’ll have them in late October. So good!

2022 - 09 - 14 /// Apostles Of Eris split? No way! ;)

September 14, 2022 by David Norman

Wait a minute…Apostles Of Eris does split releases? No way!!! (hahaha I’m so funny) But yes, Apostles Of Eris has a brand spankin’ new 7” split with New York’s Ennui! One long jam by AOE and three slaps to the face from Ennui. Digital and physicals release Friday September 16th, 2022 at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST. This is a co-release with Day Zero Collective with them having most of the copies!

CanaDave’s non-screamo label Softseed Music is releasing some very nice tapes for the fantastic ‘don’t care - good music’ EP from math-rock project Charger Port tomorrow. Three sick songs over three sick variants. Mmmmmmm here’s one titled “DON’T CARE good swirl”.

Here’s a teaser pic of one of the My Hair Is A Rat’s Nest variants for the new cassette releasing next week on Tomb Tree! Without a doubt one of the coolest concoctions we’ve come up with. And the 23-minute song fucking rules!

A reminder that Desolate Hands Move the Hour 4-way split 10” is utterly fantastic. Check the Out Past the Rings video! Nab a copy!

And thus we conclude the beautiful memory trip for ZBR Fest 2022 that were transmitted by the individual band videos. Last one? Hawak. I love Hawak. I love Tom. I love Jon. I love Josh. Brick up, my friends. Brick up. By the way, Chicago was so bricked up on Day 2 of ZBR Fest Mid-West 2022 on June 12th, 2022 that when we demanded an encore the band just played the opener again (as they had no more songs ready) and the crowd went even more ballistic. Awesome times. See you in May 2023 <3

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: JEANNE = Holy crap a new EP from one of France’s best screamo bands! Incredible!!!
