SHOGANAI - Shoganai (cassette)
SHOGANAI ‘Shoganai‘ cassette EP (ZB387)
For fans of: Rainmaking, Rayleigh, Nuvolascura, New Forms, Blind Girls, and Mahria
Complex, beautiful, cathartic, and hot damn those vocals are fuckin' sick. The Austin, Texas four-piece tap into Nuvolascura (but slightly less techy), Roman Candle, and Heavenly Blue styled screamo. The ability of the band to make their first five songs slay this much speaks volumes of the caliber of the members, and any subsequent material will be salivated over by myself and likely lots of others, because this is ridiculously good. The searing vocals appear consistently but really hook on tracks "Carving" and "How I Know You're Gone", while the instrumental highlights occur on "Names and Dates in Concrete" (yummy bowl of noodles) and "Carving" again (reminds me of Crowning's unique style in the first half and a bit o' Capsule in the second). But holy smokes does "Paradise" go the hardest, taking my head clean off at the 30-second mark.
Cassettes /53: 25 black + white swirl, 15 blue swirl, 10 on white, and 3 test dips w/matching cases, each with double-sided j-card. 5 songs.
