Following up on the solo artist’s 2023 debut LP is the ridiculously incredible sophomore endeavor ‘Carnate’, a 13-track album of beauty, heartbreak, emotion, darkness, and so much more. These songs are much fuller, brighter, and with slicker production while still maintaining an eerie, bedroom-like quality. Not only that but gone are the sampled drums, with Oliver from Hillsboro lending his hands and feet to the writing and recording process, giving the songs a much denser sound and incorporating new avenues for songwriting and growth. The two lead singles showcase BOK SUNA’s range as “honest person” bobs along with biting lyrics and catchy vocal hooks while “doghorn” makes the jump into heavier shoegaze with lush singing smoothing it all out. The album itself incorporates so many styles, emotions, and unique moments - all dripping with honesty and self-reflection, making it a piece of work that stands on its own in a time of gross super saturation.
