CASSILIS - Quitting 12" (preorder with immediate mp3 download here)
Earlier this week CASSILIS' new album 'Quitting' was posted online for streaming with a full download of the album. Because Facebook sucks, I figured I'd post something here BECAUSE THIS LP IS FUCKING KILLER. The reason I'm helping release it is because the band has been one of my favourites for the past 5 years. When they asked me to be a part of the release I nearly soiled myself. After hearing the album, I couldn't believe my luck. Not only was I going to be releasing the new CASSILIS album, but I was going to be releasing the BEST album the band has ever put on wax.
Tracks like "Rat Park" and "God Hair" have breakdowns galore that will get you the fuck out of your seat in a hurry. The band has opted for a bit more melody in their songs, but that being said it is mostly in relation to the structuring of the songs. The screaming is as heavy as ever, the instrumentals drip with a sludgy-yet-acidic urgency and the overall demeanor of the album is like a slap in the face with a 2-by-4 littered with rusty nails.
3 of the longer tracks, "Bone Sled", "American 90s" and "Groan Sleeve" boast maturity in the way they have been constructed and how they transition from one section to the next, as opposed to being solely chaotic. I can't wait to get my lyric sheet, because the song titles are all expertly phrased tongue-in-cheek jabs. The seriousness of the issues is much akin to fellow metallic screamo pioneers Phoenix Bodies. By now you should be screaming, "I take the bone sled through the dead world!"
